Joss Stone Says Music Piracy Is Brilliant

Unlike most artists who are constantly bitching about how people are ’stealing’ their music by illegally downloading them, Joss Stone thinks piracy is brilliant and that music should be shared.

Yeah, I love it. I think it’s brilliant and I’ll tell you why,” Stone continued. “Music should be shared. [...] The only part about music that I dislike is the business that is attached to it. Now, if music is free, then there is no business, there is just music. So, I like it, I think that we should share.”

“It’s ok, if one person buys it, it’s totally cool, burn it up, share it with your friends, I don’t care. I don’t care how you hear it as long as you hear it. As long as you come to my show, and have a great time listening to the live show it’s totally cool. I don’t mind. I’m happy that they hear it.”

Wow! She must be really contented with her music career to be so cool about stuff like sharing of music. A DRM fan she certainly isn’t.

Pork And Beans And The Viral That Is

Thanks to Kevin, I have a nice earworm buzzing in my head. Weezer’s video for their latest single, Pork and Beans, taken from their “Red Album” …. uhm …. album debuted on YouTube today and it features many of your favourite viral videos including the Coke and Menthos experiment and Chris “Leave Britney Alone!!!!” Crocker (although I think Seth Green’s parody is a lot funnier!)

Anyway, here’s some Pork and Beans:

Oh, and not forgetting Marie Digby who premiered her latest video for Say It Again a couple of days ago. Ahhh …. Marie ….. so pweety! But she really has to find some new way to move to her music. She’s doing that nodding her head thing and bobbing up and down throughout the song it’s making me dizzy. Her beauty’s making me dizzy! Heh! :D

Now I can add “finding new music” to the list of reasons why I’m on Twitter.

Metallica Live in LA

Gawd I miss these guys and I can’t wait for their album to be released in September. Judging from their performance during a benefit concert in front of 2,000 lucky fans for Flea’s music school for kids, as told in this interview with Rolling Stone magazine, they’re still rocking as hard as ever.

Does the new Metallica album have a title yet?
It’s got a title and we’re still playing with it to see if we like it. But I guess the album’s done. It’s still got to be mixed. All the singing, all the recording is pretty much done. And we’re pleased with it.

Was it an unusually long process this time?
It doesn’t seem that way, but at the rate we’re going, the next one will take four years. I don’t particularly like taking that long. There’s a few things that I know could make it shorter, but other band members disagree, so we do our best with a compromise.

4 years?? Damn! I hope they don’t take *that* long to come up with the next album!

Draco Malfoy Sings!

Tom Felton, the actor who played Potter-bully, Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, is releasing a few songs. This actor/musician sings a medley of his songs in this video.

I don’t know about the singing, though. As Simon Cowell would put it, “What the bloody hell was that??”.

Looks like Mr Felton needs a lot of wizardry (and more singing practice) before he becomes a successful singer.

    Moby Loves Chicken!

I sure do!! :D Especially of the fried and crispy variety.

    This Moby likes chicken too!

    Mix Me A Muxtape

I just had to see what all the fuss was about surrounding muxtape, the Web 2.0 version of the ol’ skool mix tape of songs that defined who we are that we used to record on the trusty boom box and give to our girlfriends as a sign that says “Hey! Listen to this! I’m a blabbermouth when I’m around you, so I hope you know how I feel about you through these mushy love songs I’ve recorded from the radio because I can’t afford that $8.50 cassette tape of R.E.O Speedwagon that I know you love so much that I want to buy for you but can’t because I only have enough money for my bus ride home, but with this mix tape recorded on the best quality TDK tape from Japan, it’s just as good as the original. I love you! XXX!!”.

(was that a long sentence or what??)

Anyways, muxtape is a pretty cool way to share music online and I’m gonna use it to showcase the rubbish earworm that invade my thoughts sometimes, and what better way to kick things off than with probably the greatest 70s pop quartet evar …. ABBA! Dancing Queen is such a classic with it’s arrangement, music and lyrics combining into a catchy tune that’s almost as perfect a song as you’ll ever hear.

My muxtape is here! Now, you can dance, you can jive and have the time of your lives ….. oooooo …..

    R.E.M Copies Improv Everywhere

They say imitation is the best form of flattery.

To celebrate the launch of their new album, Accelerate, R.E.M “went to places where people live their lives too fast and showed them how to decelerate.”

I still think the original Improv Everywhere video is better.

Initially, R.E.M’s version of the video on YouTube did not give credit to Improv Everywhere. But a one liner was subsequently added on the video page.

Update 2/4/08, 1808h: Video was taken down in order for R.E.M’s people to put the credits on the video. Kudos to them! :)

Amy Winehouse’s New Album In The Works

Rumour has it that Amy Wino’s new album is darker with lyrics reflecting death and the depressing life she’s going through now.

    No, no, no …..

Clay ‘Lesbo’ Aiken’s New Album Cover

Vote for the Worst says he looks more and more sexually ambiguous. I agree! If I didn’t know who this American Idol runner up was, I’d think he was a ’she’.

    Madonna’s New Album Cover

One album I’m definitely gonna get. But not for the leather and crotch shot on the album cover!

    Kanye Hands Video

Not nearly as good as the original Daft Hands video which was shot in one continuous take. The Kanye version has been heavily edited. Still a cool video, though.

McCartney Snubs Mills. Pays Tribute To Linda Instead

This must surely be a real stab in the heart of the money-grabbing ex-wife of Paul McCartney.

Heather Mills not only could not get tickets for the Brit Awards where McCartney was honoured with a lifetime achievement award, she was snubbed through and through when he paid an emotional tribute to his late wife, Linda McCartney as he sang a medly of "Hey Jude", "Get Back" and "Live and Let Die".

The Not So New Kids On The Block To Make A Comeback

New Kids on The Block. Remember them? Years after the band disbanded, they have decided to get back in the recording studio again.

I’m all for reunions and bands making a comeback. Some bands have had great success with their comeback albums, like the Eagles, for example.

But the NKOTB? I’m not so sure about this ….

The band’s new website is up.
