In A Bubble - Why Have A Baby?

First there was Boo-Shorts on ‘the other blog’. Now, we have ‘In A Bubble’ (as opposed to ‘in a nutshell’) on this blog. Little snippets of my endless thought stream - too short to be a ‘proper post’ but too long for Twitter.

Why have a baby? Why go through all the bother, the headaches, the stress, the sleepless nights wondering when your baby’s gonna stop crying so that you can shut your eyes for a couple of hours before having to get up for work. Why spend the tens (maybe hundreds) of thousands of dollars needed to raise a child from newborn all the way till he has his own income when you could be putting your feet up on some sandy beach, sipping a nice cold beverage under a shady coconut tree and enjoying …. life!

Why have a baby?

When you come home after a stressful and tiring day at work, when your body’s too numb to move and all you can think about is a nice shower, a hot meal and a warm bed, you’re handed a baby and in those tired arms of of yours, she looks up at you and recognizes that you are her daddy and give you the widest, cutest, toothless grin no Anne Geddes photo can match, a smile that’s full of untainted, pure love …. suddenly all your worries are washed away and in that one moment, you’re filled with so much pride, it’s bursting at the seams and you just …. smile back at her.

That’s why we have a baby.
