I think more of such tests should be conducted in our schools, not only to help the teachers understand the need of some of their students who may have autism, but also for parents and the kids themselves who may not know of their condition.

“One of the challenges we face as educational psychologists (EPs) is that we need a more fine-grained tool to assess children with mild cases of autism that has less obvious symptoms,” said Dr Mariam.

“We also needed something that could better determine the level of severity among children who are already diagnosed, so that we can develop more targeted intervention methods for them,” she added.

Previously, she said, it was up to EPs to use their own methods of testing for the cases they see.

Actually only after reading your posts did I realize that one of my cousins had [probably still has] mild autism. Sadly, he was not treated for it. He's about 16 yo now. Still unsociable esp with ppl of his age group or even with his male cousins, but totally the opposite of what he was when he was a kid. Back then, he was very noisy, very naughty, destructive, destructive, destructive... Lately, he's toooooooooooooo quiet. So quiet that he scares the shyt out of us. But at least he's no longer destructive. I was very pleased when we went for a family vacation last year to Tioman that he socialized with me and we were buddies :) Everyone else was very surprised, but pleased. I think there's hope for kids with autism. Just be patient and continue to show your love and care :) And thanks for teaching me something here - I would not have known about autism if it wasn't for you and your blog entries.

I'm glad you've gotten some insight into this common (as many as 1 in every 150 boys has it in various forms) but often not discussed condition. From what you described he seems like he has autism. Never too late to get help if he needs it.
