I took a couple of days off from work to recharge my batteries as well as to do some damage on the pockets as Trin and I took Maya on a shopping trip, sans the boys, of course! No way are we going to go through the stress of bringing three young kids on a long shopping trip like last week again!
After dropping off the two screaming and protesting boys at the MIL’s place, we went to Raffles City, which has changed so much over the years, to get some essential items, ie. clothes. It’s ironic how I work so hard, get my pay and end up buying clothes …. for work. What’s even more ironic is that I could still fit into a size 32 pants, which has been my size for years and years, despite the added girth. Maybe I’ve lost weight. Quite a few people have said so. In any case, Trin managed to get what she wanted, tried them on while I showed Maya around Robinson’s. She was only interested in milk, so as soon as Trin paid for her stuff, I passed Maya back to her while I shopped for my clothes during the time they were in the nursing room.
Damage no. 1 done!
Next came a much needed break in the form of lunch at Aerin’s at the basement. It’s amazing how a simple hour of shopping with a month-old baby can be so tiring. Lunch was great! We had a set of trio mushroom (shittake, button and oyster mushrooms) bruschetta for starters. Excellent! The crust of the baguette was crunchy but the bread was so soft combined with the sweet mushrooms and baby tomatoes, it was a good start to the meal.
Trin had the Aerin’s tagliatel pasta with mushroom ragout, smoked salmon and roe. Delightful!
I had the the spaghetti chicken with kabayaki sauce, topped with nori and bonito flakes - a kind of interesting fusion pasta dish that’s part Italian, part Japanese. Love it!
Damage no. 2 done!
Off we went to continue our shopping, this time to get a little something for each other. Our current wallets are …. well, let’s just say it’s about time they’re gotten rid of. So we got ourselves these:
Lack of time and energy prevented us from ’surprising’ each other with this year’s anniversary gifts but we’re more than happy with our purchases today.
Damage no. 3 done!
We still had one final destination to go before we dragged ourselves and our shopping bags home. Much talk and discussion went on with regards to our next purchase, but in the end, we finally settled on it. Although we’re both very excited with our modest car, at the same time, we’re terrified of the expenses that will be pumped (pun intended) into it. Owning a car (any car) in Singapore is a huge investment and this will mean a little tightening of belts for us. It is, after all, our second single biggest purchase ever (after our house). Just signing all the forms left me with a migraine. But the car is a necessity for us with all the ferrying of the kids to and from the MIL’s place, Ajab to and from school and cab fares going up and up, etc.
Damage no. 4 done!
I can’t wait to get my hands on the keys and start it up next month! For now, it’ll be more shopping tomorrow. Need to get new pillows and frying pans! ![]()
