Wow! Has it been 2 weeks already?? It seems like yesterday that we were rushing to the hospital to deliver this little princess of ours. To say that time flies, would be an understatement. I guess when you have two other kids to tend to, on top of other commitments, you’re left with little time to reflect on the past couple of weeks.
Maya’s been a very good girl so far. Other than a couple of restless nights, she only cries to be fed and hasn’t been too fussy when we leave her in the cot or the moses basket by herself. This is rather encouraging as it bodes well for the future when we start her off on her sleep routine, which would probably start next month.
From the day that she came home, Maya hasn’t complained about having to sleep in her cot in our room, but she does prefer to cuddle up to Trin after her mid-night feeds. Co-sleeping with us on our bed hasn’t been much of a problem. Oh there was that one time where I nearly elbowed her while I was sleeping, I think. Yikes!
I was adamant on not shaving her beautiful hair and I got my way. Yay!
She was supposed to be circumcised last weekend (it’s not as gruesome a procedure as you think!), but due to a miscommunication between my grandmother and mother (both thought that the other was going to bring the equipment), it’s been postponed. And now, after having learnt that my cousin’s daughter did not have a circumcision, I’m having second thoughts. Though it’s encouraged by religion, I figured why put her through all that stress, my poor baby?
The boys have been coping well with the changes in routine. This is the first week whereby I send both of them to the MIL’s place on Monday and either one alternatively on other days, whilst Trin is still on maternity leave. They’re still treating their sister more like a cute doll than anything else, but Ajab’s been planting kisses on top of Maya’s head, sometimes even on on his own free will. Ayeed’s been content to merely peek at her while Maya’s in the cot, but he does seem to be a little more clingy to Trin when she’s nursing Maya. He’d wriggle his way up on the sofa and plonk himself next to Trin, grabbing a fistful of her hair and twirling it while sucking his thumb (yes, Ayeed has a hair fetish!).
The cheek-poking by both boys is still continuing, and there was one time when Ayeed gave us a fright during one of his tantrums when he turned to the moses basket which was placed on the sofa with Maya in it, grabbed the side …. and pulled. Trin managed to stop the basket from toppling over. Phew! Lesson learnt - never leave a baby in a moses basket on a sofa when a cranky toddler is in the vicinity.
Other than that mini-drama, and the hectic nature of trying to juggle three kids, work, housework and my own personal activities, things have been pretty good so far.
